Nasu-Yumoto Onsen Area

Nasu-yumoto Onsen Hot Springs is at the foot of Mt. Chausu-dake (1915m).
In 630, a local official hunted a white deer, which was eating the crops in his field. He shot an arrow at, and hit the deer, but it escaped. He followed the deer into Nasu-yumoto, and eventually found the deer soaking in an unknown hot spring to heal its wound. Looking at the deer in the hot spring, he thought it was a blessing from God. This is the origin of this hot springs.
Mt. Chausu-dake is an active volcano, formed 16,000 years ago. You can reach the 9th stage via a 4-minute ropeway ride, and after that, it’s a 40-minute climb to the summit.
